Purpose

Now, a single operator can bring multiple pieces of equipment to and from the field alone. Attach the easy-to-use tow bar, pre-mounted on an ATV or UTV, behind any wagon, tractor, self-propelled chopper, combine, or pickup truck. Once you have reached your destination and need to retrieve more equipment, simply unhook the ATV or UTV and drive yourself back for more equipment!

Story Behind the Invention

Phil Koenigs

Inventor Phil Koenigs of Argonne, WI has designed a tow bar for ATVs and UTVs, allowing them to be towed by farming machinery.

Harvest season is a critical time for farmers, marked by long hours, hard work, and a race against the clock – and the weather. A recurring issue for farmers is retrieving equipment that has been left behind in the fields. After a full day of combining, most wagons are filled to maximum capacity. Leaving these wagons and the valuable harvested crops out in the fields overnight is not a practical solution.

Weather is a constant concern. Rain and moisture can severely damage the quality of the harvested grain. If grain absorbs too much moisture, it not only risks rot, but also incurs additional costs when it must be dried at a mill before sale. Grain drying is an expensive process that cuts directly into a farmer’s profits. Thus, every effort is made to shelter the harvested grain, keeping its moisture levels low to maintain quality and obtain the highest possible market price. This balancing act between efficiency and protection highlights the need for organized operations during harvest season. Farmers must work swiftly to bring crops and equipment “home” for shelter each evening.

With these issues in mind, Phil was inspired to develop the Labor Saver Tow Bar. Now, a single operator can bring multiple pieces of equipment to and from the field alone.
